TAM-SCTA Awarded $826,000 Grant to Initiate Bikeshare
Bike Sharing is coming to Marin County!
On November 15th, 2017 the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) awarded $826,000.00 in joint funding to TAM and the Sonoma County Transportation Authority (SCTA) to plan and build a bike share system that would operate at and around the SMART stations in both counties. The planned system is expected to consist of approximately 200 bikes that will use the latest generation of bike share technology, meaning that they will come with built-in locks, GPS technology, and do not have to be “docked” at a specific location. Users will be able to locate and rent a bike using an app on their smart phone.
The system is initially planned to consist of ~100 bikes in Marin County and ~100 bikes in Sonoma County at stations in the following cities: Larkspur, San Rafael, Novato, Petaluma, Cotati, Rohnert Park, and Santa Rosa. The goal is to help complete the “last mile” between SMART stations and work and shopping locations. The system is expected to be operational in late 2018 or early 2019. Updates will be provided as the project progresses.
