Sir Francis Drake Boulevard from Fairfax Limit to Samuel P. Taylor (Shafter Bridge)

This project rehabilitated and re-paved a severely deteriorated 5.2-mile-long section of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard between Shafter Bridge and Platform Bridge Road, located approximately 1 mile west of the Town of Lagunitas. The work to bring the roadway up to current design standards as published by Caltrans and the American Association of State Highway Officials (AASHTO), will improve mobility and safety.

The project goals included:

Restore the roadway‘s pavement to provide an additional 30-year design life

Complete improvements to the roadway’s alignment where possible to enhance safety

Enhance pedestrian and bicycle uses of the roadway

Upgrade the highway to current freeway standards from Route 37 in Novato (Marin County) to Old Redwood Highway in Petaluma (Sonoma County)

Funding

Design and construction of the $13.2 million project was funded by Measure A , the Marin County 20-year 1/2-cent Transportation Sales Tax.
