The Transportation Authority of Marin (TAM) is undertaking a study to make Marin County’s rail and ferry stations easier to get to and use and more enjoyable to ride.

The Marin County Mobility Hub Plan (Plan) will assess the opportunities for Mobility Hubs at nine rail and ferry stations in Marin County. The Plan aims to support transit ridership, access, and customer amenities for these regionally significant transit locations in Marin County. These locations are all subject to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission’s (MTC’s) Transit Oriented Communities (TOC) policy. By supporting local jurisdiction compliance with MTC’s TOC policy requirements for station access, the Plan will ensure continued opportunities for critical transportation funding for the region.

The study area includes these nine locations:

• San Marin SMART Station (Novato)
• Downtown SMART Station (Novato)
• Hamilton SMART Station (Novato)
• Civic Center SMART Station (San Rafael)
• Downtown SMART Station (San Rafael)
• Larkspur SMART Station (Larkspur)
• Larkspur Ferry Terminal (Larkspur)
• Tiburon Ferry Terminal (Tiburon)
• Sausalito Ferry Terminal (Sausalito)

Mobility Hubs are places in a community that bring together public transit, active transportation options such as biking, walking, shared services and other ways for people to get where they want to go. Built around frequent and high-capacity transit, Mobility Hubs offer a safe, comfortable, convenient, and accessible space to seamlessly transfer from one type of transportation to another.

The study will analyze station access opportunities and identify ways to improve getting to the ferry and rail stations. Based on community input, it will also include preparing concept design and steps to implementation for incorporating mobility hub features at several of the study locations.
